Dr. Kristin McLaughlin, PhD, ABPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst in Massachusetts (Lic. #11166), New York (Lic. #023234), Connecticut (Lic. #4256), and Virginia (Lic. #0810007876). She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and completed an APA-accredited internship in Clinical Psychology at the Albany Psychology Internship Consortium.
Dr. McLaughlin received additional, specialized training in psychoanalysis and intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy by completing a four-year postdoctoral Fellowship in Adult Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. She has achieved double Board Certification in Psychoanalysis and in Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Dr. McLaughlin received certification in Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and Research through the Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research at the California Institute of Integral Studies, which currently serves as the “gold standard” for training in this area.
Dr. McLaughlin specializes in intensive psychotherapy and working with individuals with severe and long-standing psychiatric problems, as well as those with more common concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties. She also offers couples therapy, clinical supervision to practicing clinicians, and psychotherapy consultations for individuals struggling to make use of, or who feel stuck in, their work with a current therapist, and psychological evaluations, including psychological testing.
In addition, Dr. McLaughlin conducts trainings and provides consultations on issues related to multiculturalism, social justice, and diversity for a variety of audiences across a range of settings and contexts, and on psychedelic assisted psychotherapy and research, Although Dr. McLaughlin does not facilitate psychedelic sessions due to legal prohibitions against use of these medicines outside of research settings in most of the United States, she does have training in their facilitation as well as in the psychological integration of these experiences.
Dr. McLaughlin has presented and published research on the subject of social justice and diversity issues and mental health. Her current research interests span a wide range of areas including topics in psychoanalysis, the phenomenology and treatment of psychosis, psychedelics, personality assessment, and social justice and diversity issues.
